Taxes and product discounts
Taxes and product discounts can change the final fee amount customers pay. FeeBee lets you tell Shopify whether a fee is taxable. How product discounts affect the fee depends on its checkout display.
Charge tax on a fee
Enable Charge tax on this fee to let Shopify calculate tax on the fee. Shopify uses your store’s tax settings, the customer’s location, their active Market, and any tax overrides.
Tax rules vary by location and fee type. Ask a tax professional if you are unsure whether a fee should be taxable.
How product discounts affect fees
| Fee display | Product discount behavior |
|---|---|
| Bundle with product | The discount also reduces the fee |
| Bundle with fees | The fee is not reduced |
| Order fee | The fee is not reduced |
Percentage fees are calculated before discounts. Product fees use the matching product price, while order fees use the cart subtotal.

When you use Bundle with product, a normal product discount also reduces the fee. FeeBee’s Discount Ignoring Fees discount type lets you apply a percentage discount to the product while leaving the fee unchanged.
